The world of reusable nappies

Using reusable nappies has been my plan ever since I found out that we were going to have a baby, but being poor travelling souls caught out with a baby on the way meant that we have had to wait a little while to invest. And to be honest, considering the 3 poo’s a day that Thalia did as a newborn, I’m kind of glad we weren’t on the washable nappy wagon back then.

After doing my research into the best way to go about using reusable nappies, we finally settled on a bambino mio starter kit, and lemme tell ya, it did not come cheap. At €200 for 20 cloth nappies and 8 nappy covers we have splashed out a little. But in the long-term we will save – that’s without considering my desire to have at least 9 more children, through which we will definitely get our monies worth. And it goes without saying that it’s a great Eco-friendly step…after calculating that since Thalia was born we have contributed 250-300 nappies a month into landfill (!!!!), I finally put my foot down and pulled out my (François’) credit card.

The only downside of the pack is that we weren’t able to choose the nappy cover designs, so we have a few which are the same…and after seeing what they offer for individual sale I feel like we’ve been a bit cheated with the ones that we got. But it’s not the end of the world, a couple of them are super cute. And it’s a good excuse to pick some pretty ones and spend even more money on Thalia…

So far we are on day 3 and loving them. True, there is a little more effort involved, but it doesn’t take up much time and her bum just looks so smooshy! It could become a little more difficult in winter when the nappies will take a lot longer to dry, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it – and maybe invest in a few more to make it easier.

I’ll leave you with this tooshie…
